On a road trip across Alabama, we stumbled across this old-school burger place in Russellville and stopped for a late lunch. Now, the interior has seen some things, okay? One of the booths has been mangled to oblivion and is unusable. The place was understaffed for the volume and pace of business it had on a Friday, so tables weren't being bussed like they should. But I'm perfectly capable of getting napkins and wiping down condensation from the last guy's Coke, you know? Customers were politely throwing away their own trash, so that was not a problem, IMHO. We ordered indoors (you also have a walk-up outdoor counter option), my husband getting the foot-long chili dog (more on that to come), while my son and I both got a single-patty cheeseburger (his with fries, mine with onion rings). All three of us had enormous fountain drinks (Pepsi products) over crushed ice. The burger patties were what we used to call "slugburgers," preformed patties (Sonic sized, not Krystal or White Castle sized) with light condiments (thank you for not drowning the burgers in mayo, etc.) with chopped onions...Vidalias, if my taste buds were not hallucinating. They were well seasoned, too, with melty American cheese. Noms! The buns were fresh, too, which is always a plus. Boy and I gobbled them down quickly. As for the onion rings, I'm a huge sucker for handmade, and these were just awesome. The batter was light (maybe a beer batter?) and crispy, and the onions were mild. I could have probably made a meal of them alone. Now, my husband is a big Coney fan. So, he was a little disappointed in his hot dog. It didn't taste bad; it just wasn't what he believed it would be. While the bun was a foot-long bun, the dog was actually one and a half normal dogs. Petty? Maybe. But here we are. A bigger disappointment was the "chili." Remember the sloppy joes we got in school? (Sloppy Joe Day was like a holiday when I was a kid.) That meat sauce is what covered the dogs...with cheese sauce like you get on ballpark nachos covering the top. He ate it, but said he's getting the burger next time. His onion rings, however, were fabulous, so all's well. The soft serve was delicious. So, definitely stop for lunch, but if you're feeling snobby...go elsewhere.

This was my first time eating here from what I understand this is a local legendary spot. Had a big barbecue sandwich, it was quite good and from the looks of the menu I will be back here again because the prices are very good. No complaints and the food was excellent

My friends and I decided to stop by after a night hike at Dismals Canyon and we were pleasantly surprised. I can't speak for the food itself because we only tried the icecream here, but the icecream was phenomenal. They have 24 flavors of soft serve available, and all of the flavors that we tried were amazing. I was also surprised to find that they served Dole whip here. The only other places that I've been able to find it has been either in Hawaii or Disney World so this was a huge win for me. I would highly recommend trying it. They have a window outside that you can order at, as well as an jndoor seating area. We weren't able to go inside because it was late, but there was a bench outside that we were able to sit at. I'd definitely recommend stopping by for some icecream if you're passing by on the highway!
